George P. Cossar State Park

Named after a prominent Mississippi attorney, George P. Cossar State Park sits off the shores of Enid Lake in Oakland, Mississippi. Located on 28,000 acres and boasting the world record for the largest crappie ever caught, this park has everything a family might want for a fun-filled camping adventure.

Campgrounds

Open year round, the park is host to the Yocona Ridge campgrounds. It is home to 83 campsites with electrical, water and sewage hook-ups, 35 waterfront sites, a playground, a laundry room and a bathhouse. Located in a separate area of the park is the Jones Creek campground, which features 48 naturalized wooded camping areas, a small playground and restrooms. For those who want to go camping without losing the conveniences of modern day amenities, the park offers 13 fully air-conditioned cabins. Each cabin accommodates four to six guests and is completely furnished with kitchen utensils, dinnerware, cooking equipment and freshly laundered bed linens. These cabins feature screened-in porches and fireplaces and offer a scenic view of Enid Lake.

Recreational activities

A popular haven for local sportsmen, George P. Cossar State Park also offers recreational activities for the entire family. The boat ramps provide easy access to Enid Lake where guests can spend the afternoon jet skiing, water skiing and fishing. Those without a fishing license can take a short walk to the park office and purchase one for a nominal fee. For dry-land activities, the park offers an 18 hole miniature golf course and a 2.5 mile nature trail where visitors can witness the beauty that lies in the mixed hardwood and pine of the Holly Springs National Forest. The forest is open for public hunting and is host to a number of popularly hunted types of game.
