History
Legion State Park was developed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. It is the fourth of the original state parks founded in Mississippi. The area was previously home to the Choctaw Indian Nation, and the park retains much of rugged, wilderness feel of that time. The park's Legion Lodge is a fine example of hand-hewn building techniques and remains unchanged since its construction. The Department of Archives and History declared it a Mississippi Landmark.
Events and attractions
Several annual events are hosted by the park to entertain visitors. An Easter egg hunt takes place each spring, followed by the Fishing Rodeo and Red Hills Crafts Festival in May. The summer months feature the Choctaw Indian Fair and Neshoba County Fair. For those willing to travel a short distance, the Tombigbee National Forest, Choctaw Museum of the Southern Indian and Noxubee National Wildlife Refuge are all within driving range.
