Trace State Park

Just miles from bustling Tupelo lies Trace State Park, one of Mississippi's most charming natural oases. A visit to this park promises to bring you back to nature quickly.
A sweet retreat
Tupelo natives have headed to Trace State Park for years to embrace the range of outdoor activities available. Davy Crockett once lived within the park's borders, and a good deal of the park is still kept in the wild condition of the land during this legendary frontiersman's time.
Exploring the area
The majority of the trails that run through Trace State Park are intended for vehicle use by mountain bikes, horses and all-terrain vehicles. Over thirty-five miles of trailways lead to some of the park's more attractive spots. Walkers flock to the nature trail, which winds through a forest of upland pine, wetland forest and hardwoods.
Water sports
Trace Lake is a 565-acre lake that is open for fishing, swimming and water sports. The lake holds bass, catfish, red-eared sunfish and crappie. A boat launch on park property is available. Water skiing is still popular here, so expect to see some crazy stunts during the summer months.
Hit the links
In one of the park's more interesting perks, overnight camping guests can enjoy a free game of golf at the adjacent Pontotoc Country Club. This well-manicured course draws a fair crowd of local duffers daily.
No matter what kind of outdoor activity you seek, Trace State Park is a fantastic destination. Close to cities, stocked with amenities and absolutely beautiful, it is one of the jewels of Mississippi's park system.
