Wall Doxey State Park

Wall Doxey State Park is situated on 810 acres, seven miles south of Holly Springs, a community of historic antebellum homes. In the center of the park is a beautiful 60 acre spring fed lake.

History

The park is named after Mississippi’s beloved son, Wall Doxy. Born in Holly Springs in 1892, he attended the University of Mississippi. In 1914, he opened his law practice and spent the next 15 years serving his home town as county prosecutor and then as district attorney. In 1928, Doxy was elected to serve as a U.S. representative and then as senator from 1941 to 1947. He is the only former senator to have served as Senate sergeant at arms, which is the law enforcer for the senate who gets to use the gavel at senate meetings. In 1948, Doxy’s poor health caused him to retire; he died in 1962.
